Bed Manufacturer of the Year

Harrison Spinks

The industry’s most vertically integrated brand goes from strength to strength. Judges commended its financial performance, rebrands and retelling of the Harrison Spinks story, all with a forensic focus on sustainability earning the company its eighth Queen’s/King’s award. With exclusive sustainable ranges for John Lewis and Dreams, the company also introduced a new Bed Tailor Collection. Additionally, their revised export strategy has resulted in significant growth in North America.

Very much a manufacturer as well as a retailer, Dreams has demonstrated significant progress at its Oldbury, West Midlands factory on innovative, customer-need-focused product innovation, increased productivity and beyond market average volume growth, award-winning quality and manufacturing excellence and sustainability initiatives, plus a demonstrable commitment to staff welfare and training.

Hypnos

This year, Hypnos has leveraged its consolidation into one site by investing significantly in people and processes to deliver significant increased capacity and productivity. Sustainability remains a core focus behind both product development and business investment, with the company investing in some of the UK’s first EV delivery vehicles. There has also been a focus on enhancing customer and staff relations, developing a new retailer partnership programme and re-shaping export strategy.

Sealy UK

Sealy has made significant progress on its journey to focus on products with higher margins and performance expectations. Sales and transactions values have grown significantly, backed by investment in innovative new product, plant and people, quick and reliable service, a great package of customer support and training, big strides in consumer awareness through digital activity and a close eye on sustainability.

The judges were Brian Ahern (The Furniture Makers’ Company), David Fitzsimons (Oakdene Hollins and European Manufacturing Council) and Jonathan Hindle (Chairman of the British Furniture Confederation, MD & President of KI Europe).

Judges commended Handy’s “commitment to ingenious product innovation, clear understanding of its customers’ needs and razor-sharp focus on customer satisfaction, in the knowledge that a slip-up will bring the whole process grinding to a halt.” From innovations including an all-wool mattress tape edge and a patent-pending novel bed bug detection and protection system to investment in its warehousing and machinery, Handy can offer added value services to its clients all with admirable staff retention and development.

Vita takes its role as a global leader very seriously, not only developing its own product and technical innovations focused on more circular products and reducing reliance on FR chemicals – but also sharing its research and expertise with the industries it serves in the spirit of “we are all in this together”.  Customers also consistently record high satisfaction scores.

Wolf Components

Wolf’s delivery of its vision to fill the need for a professional, independent, onshore producer of pocket springs continues apace this year, with the launch of an exciting new, recyclable unit, which ticks all the boxes for eco-design and performance, while it remains committed to continuous investment in cutting edge technology and production capabilities, nurturing its staff and reducing its carbon footprint.

Silentnight Beds – Eco Comfort AirMesh™ mattress

The coveted Bed Product of the Year was awarded to Silentnight Beds for its Eco Comfort Airmesh™ mattress. The judges found this mattress to be “really comfortable” and ticked all the boxes. Based on extensive consumer research, the manufacturer knows what people want and has set out to deliver it at a realistic price point.

Among a number of entries prioritising temperature regulation, this truly had the science and messaging to back it up. The judges described the point of sale as “beautiful, flexible, and tactile,” promising to bring the range to life in-store according to the retailer’s preferences.

Millbrook Beds – Opulent Pillow Top 7000

The Opulent Luxury Pillow Top 7000 from Millbrook Beds is a groundbreaking mattress that blends modern design, innovative inner tuft technology, and sustainable materials. With 1000 pocket springs, 6000 mini pocket springs and locally sourced wool, it offers superior comfort, support, and climate control. Launched to wide acclaim, and designed for independent and group retailers, the premium mattress features strong marketing support and exemplifies outstanding design, innovation and value.

Sealy UK – Elevate UltraLux mattress

Launched for its 50th anniversary, Sealy’s new Elevate UltraLux blends the Elevate Ultra and Exquisite collections. Featuring innovative technologies like AlignSupport® coils, UniCased® XT edge support, ComfortBridge™ for pressure relief, and INFUSE™ Copper for airflow, the mattress offers luxurious comfort and durability. Made with eco-friendly materials, the mattress includes a premium design and visual merchandising support, focusing on social media campaigns to celebrate Sealy’s milestone and boost sales.

The judges were Steve Adams (Mattress Online), Sue Davies (Sue Davies Design Solutions), James Dunne (Prestige Beds), Paul Farley (Furniture News) and Joanna Fielding (AIS).

Component Product of the Year

Winner

Nestor Springs – ValueRest spring

Polish spring manufacturer Nestor Springs won this year’s Component Product of the Year award for its ValueRest spring. The judges praised the company for creating a luxury component at an affordable price that meets customer needs. The innovative spring design features an increased spring diameter, which was developed based on customer feedback and is now a patented product. This new spring configuration uses 30% less steel, resulting in a significant impact on the overall product. It provides comfort while being cost-effective and highly functional.

Highly Commended: John Cotton Nonwovens – Earthkind mattress insulator pad

A very close call between Nestor and John Cotton, this entry showcased a significant amount of work and investment in the processing of fibres to create a highly sustainable circular solution to help solve end-of-life mattress issues. Turning waste material into a resource for re-use and helping with diversion from landfill, the Earthkind mattress insulator pad has the potential to revolutionise the mattress industry.

Boyteks – BioCool mattress ticking

Boyteks’ BioCool mattress ticking was shortlisted as a finalist for its innovative use of plant-based biopolyethylene yarns derived from sugar cane. This sustainable material enhances sleep quality by providing a cool and environmentally friendly sleeping environment. Additionally, BioCool’s reduction of petroleum-based materials contributes to lowering CO2 and greenhouse gas emissions, making it a promising addition to a more sustainable bed industry.

Carpenter – Podz™ Foam Springs

A sustainable alternative to traditional metal springs, Podz™ Foam Springs provide superior support, durability, and recyclability. Made from varying foam grades, they enhance comfort, reduce motion transfer, and simplify recycling by eliminating metal components. This innovation meets growing eco-friendly demands, filling a market gap for high-performance, recyclable bedding solutions. With strong customer support and marketing strategies, Podz™ Foam Springs combine affordability, durability, and sustainability for a next-generation sleep experience.

Handy Ltd – Narrow Woven Wool Tape Edge

Handy has created an innovative eco-friendly, fire-retardant mattress tape using wool, a natural inherently fire-resistant material. The Handy team overcame challenges of weaving wool on looms designed for synthetic yarns by modifying equipment and creating a dedicated production area. Additionally, wool’s flexibility allows for small-batch custom color options using organic dyes, certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS).

The judges were Natalie Armstrong (Sealy UK), Danny Blackmore (Silentnight) and Dave Morris (Sleepeezee).
