The Award Categories
Bed Product of the Year – now closed
This award is only open to NBF members who will be exhibiting at the Bed Show, recognising the manufacturer with the most outstanding new product launched since the 2023 Bed Show or due to be launched at this year’s Bed Show.
It may be a complete bed set, a mattress, bed frame, sofa bed or headboard.
The judges will be scoring the entries on the following criteria so please ensure you address these in your entry:
Aesthetics
Materials used
Eco-design credentials
Innovation
Value
Target customer
Marketing support
Other
Component Product of the Year – now closed
This award is open to NBF supplier members only, who will be exhibiting at the Bed Show. It will be awarded to the most innovative component product or machine used in manufacturing a finished product (e.g., spring, foam, fabric, fibre, slat, castor etc). It must have been launched since the 2023 Bed Show or will be launched at this year’s Bed Show and will be made widely available commercially.
The judges will be scoring the entries on the following criteria so please ensure you address these in your entry:
Innovation
Eco-design credentials
Filling a perceived gap in the market
Value
Marketing support
Other

Please note, that if you are shortlisted for the Bed Manufacturer of the Year Award, you will be asked to put forward a spokesperson to discuss your entry via an online meeting with the judges. Please ensure someone is available on Wednesday 11th September 2024 between 11 am – 3 pm. The meeting will last 15 – 20 minutes max.
Supplier of the Year – now closed
The judges will be looking for the company that demonstrates success over the 12-month period from July 2023 to June 2024. Within your entry, you should consider covering key areas of your business such as:

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS & TOP TIPS – PLEASE READ
- The main elements of your entry should be the Executive Summary of no more than 750 words. Entries exceeding the word limits given in the criteria will be disqualified.
- Please study the criteria the judges will be looking at in the category and ensure you address each one in your summary.
- For retailers, clear support of NBF and NBF member brands is a crucial element of your entry. This is not limited to simply stocking the brands, we want to see how else you support and showcase NBF and NBF member brands to your customers.
- Your entry can be accompanied by no more than 2 attachments of supporting detail. Please, no fancy presentations or videos. They won’t influence the judges’ decisions, which will be based on content.
- This will only be looked at IF the Executive Summary persuades the judges it’s worth delving further! Please do not include links to further material in your supporting documents.
- Do not reprint general information that can easily be found on websites or in company literature.
- Allow yourself plenty of time to consider and develop your entry but don’t miss the relevant deadlines. Please check the deadline for each category.
- Provide solid evidence for any specific claims or statistics you make in your entry.
- Use spell check and ask someone outside of your business to proofread your entry – this will make sure that it makes sense.
- We may ask you to provide further details about your entry, if necessary. So please ensure correct contact details are provided.

About Brian Ahern
Brian had an early career in the electrical wholesaling industry, before spending 18 years at a cabinet furniture manufacturer. With an extensive background in the furniture industry, Brian has since held various positions in different organisations, including the British Furniture Manufacturers Association and the Furniture Industry Research Association. Brian is also on the board of the British Furniture Confederation and joined The Furniture Makers’ Company in 2003.

About Sue Davies
Sue trained as a surface pattern/textile designer and her first job was working at Hilden manufacturing as a woven cad designer and fabric developer for mattress tickings and upholstery fabric. In 2002 she went on to become Group Textile Design Manager for the Silentnight Group until 2012 when she set up her own business. She now designs products for various bed companies and is also an agent for BekaertDeslee, assisting in sales, design and new ticking and cover development for the UK bed market. Sue is married with an 18 year old son, living in her home county of Lancashire.
Paul Farley (Furniture News)
Judging Bed Product of the Year
About Paul Farley
Paul Farley joined Furniture News in 2006 and has been its editor since 2008. The magazine is the longest established of today’s furniture trade titles, starting life as Pine News International in 1986 and expanding its coverage across all domestic furniture as Furniture News from 2001.
A veteran NBF Award judge, Paul also co-ordinates The Furniture Awards, and is the Secretary General of the International Alliance of Furnishing Publications (IAFP).
James Dunne (Prestige Beds)

About James Dunne
James joined the family business full time in 2005 at 18, following a conversation with his father and late grandfather. Starting out as a delivery driver, which he enjoyed for four years, James was promoted to sales before getting more involved in marketing, buying, merchandising and e-commerce in his mid – late twenties. James took up his current role as operations director in 2018, after almost 18 years in the business.
Dave Morris (Sleepeezee)

About Dave Morris
Dave has over 30 years’ valuable experience of working in the bed industry at Sleepeezee and has been involved in production, logistics, quality assurance, purchasing and product development.
Natalie Armstrong (Sealy)

About Natalie Armstrong
Natalie has a keen eye for what makes a winning product, with Sealy UK winning 2022’s Bed Product of the Year. Having worked at Sealy UK for seven years in various roles within marketing, for the last two years, Natalie has headed up new product development initiatives from conception right through to launch.
Danny Blackmore (Silentnight)

About Danny Blackmore
Danny has worked in the industry for 30 years across a wide range of roles, beginning in operations, before going on to Silentnight’s Change Management team to work on a series of cross-functional projects. Danny went on to implement a new enterprise resource planning system, which provided a real in-depth perspective on all the business processes that support and drive all the functions and decisions. In recent years, Danny has worked on new product development, implementation and compliance, and taking on the role of Head of Change before his current position as Operations Director.
David Fitzsimons (European Remanufacturing Council)

About David Fitzsimons
David Fitzsimons is Director of the European Remanufacturing Council based in Brussels. He is a member of the EU Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform, an advisor to the WBCSD CTI metrics for the circular economy and an advisor to the European Bed Industries Association (EBIA) on Product Ecodesign.
Joanna Fielding (Association Independent Stores (AIS))

About Joanna Fielding
Joanna Fielding, beds category manager at Associated Independent Stores (AIS) makes her judging debut this year. Having studied surface design at university in York, Joanna worked for eight years as a fashion design manager where she spent much of her time in Asia and Europe working within sampling facilities and sourcing new innovative fabrics. Eager to broaden her expertise, Joanna pursued a business masters tailored for the creative industries. This strategic move opened doors to a pivotal role in Product Development at Furniture Wholesale Group (FWG), where she excelled in design, development and project management. After five years, Joanna joined AIS in January 2024.
Jonathan Hindle (Chairman of the BFC, MD & President of KI Europe)

About Jonathan Hindle
Jonathan originally trained as a designer and practiced at leading architectural and design and build companies before moving into sales and marketing in fit-out, property development and office furniture design & manufacture. Jonathan founded the Design Guild Mark in 2007 and established the corporate membership and fundraising programmes at The Furniture Makers’ Company
